Yeah!! for the Cheaper Alternative.

One of the biggest Gripes I’ve had over the last two years is the price of the drugs I’ve now had to start taking thanks to “C”.
The medication for my Thyroid Hormones has been at a pretty good price, thanks to being on the PBS at $5 for about a two month supply.
But the one that really gets me is the drug I have to take thanks to my total Hysterectomy - Livial (Tibolone), this drug is a HRT but only for woman who can’t take estrogen or progestogen, which are two of the things my Uterine Cancer enjoyed feeding off.
I wasn’t too fazed about having to take this drug, it’s just another white pill I have to pop in the morning, the thing that really gets me annoyed is the Price.

Depending on where I went when I was given the prescription in 2006 the price and the fact it’s not on the PBS really shocked me.
My local Chemist wanted to charge me $40 for a 28 day supply, which in my mine is far too much, so I went else where to get it, namely Chemist Warehouse.
They were really good, I could get a 6 month supply for $150 - so I did, and thought I could handle that price, but like all things the price went up and at the start of 2008 a 6 month supply would have cost me $190! Don’t bloody likely I said to my mother when I was told that price, Chemist Warehouse might claim to have the cheapest prices on prescription drugs, but I wasn’t buying that.

After googling for a cheaper price I managed to find one day when I was in a bigger shopping centre a chemist that would sell it to me for $34 a pack, and that’s brilliant and I would have paid that price until I was told that they had now brought out a generic brand of my drug.. WooHoo which is $32 and get this it’s cheaper then the price of the originals that I got in 2006 from Chemist warehouse.

Damn I love it when they do that, the only thing different to the Livial is the box is purple and the name is different - Xyvion
So in the long run it really pays to check your prices for things and someday soon I’m looking forward to being told that it’s on the PBS and would cost me $15….. When it happens I”ll chuck a party for sure.
