Just My Words

Wiggle it.

Had the day off yesterday so hitched a lift in to Melbourne with mum and dad as it was the day Mum had her plaster taken on her dodge foot after the operation.(those 7 weeks flew by) and while they sat around St Vincents waiting for Mum’s Surgeon to show up I walked down to Smith st and went exploring.

I really enjoy Smith St, when I used to work in that area of Collingwood, I’d walk up and get my lunch and have a wander around the shops and see what I could find.
The street is really very low income in it’s feel, with lots of factory outlets mixed in with lots of cafe’s and high end clothing shops, but the thing that I enjoyed exploring the most was the Vintage clothing stores.
Living in the country I don’t get much of a chance to wander around second hand stores or vintage clothing places, so I made sure that each shop I entered I had a really good look around.
One store was brilliant, two stories high and filled with clothing, furniture and bric-a-brac from the 1940 to 1980’s so many things to look at and I didn’t have a cent to spend. :(

Saw a few coats that I would have loved, two nice trench styles that fit rather well and looked good, I’m sure I’ll find something like them again, but the idea that something in those shops that fit me was a nice thing.

Another shop that I looked in had lots of toys that brought back memories, as well as really old knitting pattens that Mum would have enjoyed seeing.
I know we’ll have to find time to come back and see them, now that she can walk better I know Mum would enjoy that one place.

One of the last shops I entered was The Searchers- a secondhand books shop, another passion of mine that has been sorely lacking of late that managed to make me part company with some of the money I really don’t have to spend, but the books I bought were very cheap and I know I’ll get use out of two of the books, a Terry Pratchett Disc world book – Carpe Jugulum and a Beginners guide to Belly Dancing.
I love both these topics, bit of a closet Disc world fan and I’ve always wanted to learn how to Belly dance, so I can justify these books, the third book I bought was the paperback copy of a book mum has wanted about Dame Judi Dench.

Mum was a really surprised when I handed her the book in the doctor’s waiting room when I arrived back at the hospital an hour later, I had the bag in one arm and a choc Mocha coffee from Hudson’s Coffee in my other hand and she’d asked me what I bought, so when I handed it over, the “oh wow thanks” was a nice reply.
